This position (and team) is the best of the best PD nurses, tasked with “parachuting in” to PD programs to stabilize and improve clinical outcomes, and enable continued growth in partnership with physicians and local leaders. The team covers a wide area of Peritoneal Dialysis programs throughout Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, Washington DC, and parts of West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. You can reside in ANY of these territories, and will have a "home clinic" assignment during times that you are not working on a “PD travel assignment”. Travel assignments will generally range from 6 to 12 weeks in duration and you will be supported by both a local and a centralized team to ensure that you have positive experiences and are positioned for success.

DaVita is seeking a Registered Nurse who is looking to give life to patients in an outpatient setting. Peritoneal Dialysis is getting a lot of attention throughout the United States, including large goals that have been set by CMS to support more patients at home. DaVita is committed to leading this effort and the formation of this travel team will be an integral part of our success. RNs in this role are high performing PD nurses, with demonstrated clinical excellence and commitment to growth. RNs will work autonomously alongside the facility administrator, home program manager and other hemo and home clinic staff to assess, troubleshoot, and make sound decisions for the critically ill patients. RNs will be expected to develop strong partnerships with physicians, surgeons and their interdisciplinary team to deliver great clinical outcomes and grow their program.
What you can expect:
Patient Care. Supervises and performs direct patient care including but not limited to taking and monitoring vital signs, initiation and termination of dialysis, documentation, physical assessment of patients and patient treatments, taking and transcription of physician’s orders, drawing and documentation of ordered laboratory work, training patient and/or care partner to perform dialysis at home and perform home evaluation as required.
Patient education. Provide education to selected patient and/or interested patients on hemo attending outpatient setting ~3x a week
Specialized, complex care. RNs deliver care to patients who are often dealing with multiple co-morbidities which require unique treatment plans and the ability to leverage a broad range of nursing skills and knowledge.
Expect the unexpected. When you walk in the door each day you don't know what patients you might have, their condition, when you will get them or when you will be done for the day.
Autonomy in an outpatient setting. Train a patient with ESRD to perform dialysis at home on peritoneal dialysis. Each day you assess, troubleshoot, and make sound decisions for critical patients.
Schedule. Schedules vary by each outpatient clinic, but generally will be 40 hour weeks comprised of five 8 hour shifts or four 10 hour shifts. On-call included and is rotated throughout a region. For this role expect to know your weekly schedule in advance, but your daily schedule may change depending on patient needs.

You Must Have (aka. Requirements):
Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state where practicing, and ability/willingness to obtain licensing throughout area
- Current or recent experience (< 1year) as a Peritoneal Dialysis Nurse for 12+ months and confidence to work independently and support peer nurses as the expert in the room
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule and work within any of the states mentioned above
Ability to travel to multiple programs within a given area (Be sure to ask your recruiter about the commute range for this position.)
- Experience assessing, trouble shooting and making sound recommendations in stressful situations
Physical Requirement: nurses often have to push/pull dialysis machines and solutions around the clinic with little or no assistance
- Associates Degree in Nursing (A.D.N) from accredited school of nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N); three-year diploma from accredited diploma program may be substituted for nursing degree
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Word and Outlook
