A Home Support Aide is a qualified individual who carries out social, personal and non-medical care tasks and who may also provide assistance with housekeeping and other related supportive tasks to a Resident in his/her place of residence. The aide may perform other tasks permissible under State scope of practice and regulatory guidelines. In addition to providing care to residents, the Lead Aide is a mentor of new and existing aides in the agency enhancing retention and job satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
In collaboration with the agency manager:
- participates in a new employee’s orientation to include joint visits and community navigation orientation
- connects with other aides on their assigned shift to support job satisfaction and an understanding of their roles and responsibilities
- participates in retention activities on assigned shift and promoting other aide participation
- participates in recruiting events
Effectively implements individualized resident care plans.
Assists residents with personal care and activities of daily living in a calm, professional and proficient manner, respecting residents’ privacy, dignity and safety.
Performs routine housekeeping tasks, including but not limited to: laundry, ironing, meal or menu planning or preparation, pet walking and feeding, closet organization, washing dishes, making beds, changing linens, kitchen chores.
- Shops and performs errands for resident.
Escorts Resident to appointments and social activities, such as restaurants, cultural and/or sports events.
Promotes psychosocial well-being through meaningful relationships.
Practices safety, infection control, and standard precautions.
Notifies office in a timely fashion, of any change in a resident’s condition.
Adheres to all department policies, procedures, and care standards.
- Maintains competency in the required job skills and knowledge.
Dresses in appropriate uniform at all times. Visibly displays ID Badge at all times.
Participates in Performance Improvement activities.

Demonstrates leadership skills within the agency and performs at a high level
Able to understand and carry out directions and instructions and maintain simple records
Demonstrates a willingness to learn and a basic understanding of the needs of the Resident
Able to accept and use supervision
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Experience as a care provider serving the senior population is preferred
Experience as a Home Support/Home Health/Private Duty aide 2-3 years preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Indirect support of other aides on the assigned shift
Must be able to read, write, understand and communicate in the English language
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:
Certified as a Home Health Aide, Certified Nursing Assistant, Geriatric Nursing Assistant or Personal Care Aide, or as per State and Federal law and regulations
CPR certification – Maryland only
