The medical assistant works under the direction of the assigned medical provider for matters related to direct patient care. Reports to direct supervisor for personnel matters, work assignments or other non-patient related issues. As a family health center, services provided include family planning, prenatal care, and primary care for pediatric and adult patients. The medical assistant performs duties only within the scope of his/her training. The medical assistant maintains patient confidentiality and conducts themselves in a professional manner at all times. Takes patient vital signs and obtains patient intake information. Performs clinical procedures such as blood draws, vaccines, nebulizer treatments, ear lavages, or EKGs. Effectively communicates with patient to determine their needs and provides education and resources. Ensures exam rooms are stocked, cleaned and set up for examinations and procedures.
Education: High School Diploma / GED required. Medical Assistant certification from and accredited program required. CPR certification required.
Skills: Familiarity with medical procedures and terminology. Proficient in an electronic health records system experience preferred. Intermediate computer and data entry skills. Uses sound judgment to anticipate needs. Ability to be flexible with changing priorities and multiple time sensitive deadlines. Uses emotional and cultural intelligence to provide appropriate communication and patient care. Exemplify compassion to patients and team members. Follow all safety procedures as outlined in Neighborhood Healthcare's Illness and Injury Prevention Plan (IIPP) and report any injuries and/or unsafe conditions immediately. Maintain privacy of all patient, employee and volunteer information and access such information only on a need to know basis for business purposes. Comply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations. Report all behaviors and/or activities that are unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful. Bilingual English/Spanish, English/Mandarin, English/Farsi, or English/Arabic preferred.
Experience: A minimum of one-year experience required.
